Mid-Telemark is known not only for the Telemark Canal and Lake Norsjø, but also for fruit, berries and excellent farm food. Around Gvarv, Bø and Akkerhaugen, the area known as Fruktbygda produces cider, apple juice, cheese, beer, meat, preserves and honey.
Fruit and cider
Lien Gård beside Lake Norsjø makes award-winning cider, apple juice, lemonade, preserves and honey. Its self-service farm shop is open throughout the year, and guided cider tastings can be booked.
Nyhuus Gard has grown fruit since 1920. Its farm shop sells seasonal apples and plums as well as award-winning apple juice, jelly and preserves. Gunheim Øko-Eple supplies organic apples and unpasteurised juice to outlets in the area.
Cheese, beer and farm produce
Wilma’s Gardysteri in Lunde makes traditional cheese close to the canal. Lindheim Ølkompani combines a four-generation fruit farm with beer, cider, a seasonal farm pub and a garden restaurant known for Neapolitan sourdough pizza.
Høyom Gård sells beef from grass-fed Highland cattle. Heimebakeriet Anne Underberg bakes traditional Telemark kling, lefse and flatbread.
