The Lifjell plateau extends across Bø, Hjartdal, Notodden and Seljord. More than twenty summits rise above 1,000 metres, while marked routes vary from shorter walks to full mountain days. In clear weather, the viewpoints reveal Norsjø, Midt-Telemark and landscapes stretching towards the coast.

Choose a walk that suits your group

Families can enjoy the gentler trails around Jønnbu, while experienced walkers can plan longer summit outings such as Øysteinnatten. Always select a route for the least experienced member of your party. Carry suitable footwear, warm and waterproof layers, food, water, a map and a charged phone.

Getting to the trailheads and planning your route

Jønnbu is the main starting area for many Lifjell walks. From Bø, follow Folkestadvegen towards Bø Sommarland and Notodden, then turn onto Lifjellvegen and continue past the ski centre to the large parking area. Marked trails lead from the parking area onto the plateau. Check current parking arrangements locally, as prices and payment methods can change.

Choose a mapped route before setting out and allow time for slower sections, rest stops and changing weather.
