Jettegrytene at Reinfoss is one of Telemark’s most unusual summer landscapes: smooth rock, rounded potholes, clear pools and natural channels shaped by moving water and stone.

What makes Jettegrytene special?
Across roughly 300 metres of riverbed, water has polished the rock into bowls, slides and deep pools. The site is beautiful in every season, but swimming is only suitable when conditions are calm and safe. Treat it as wild nature rather than a managed water park.
Access and parking
Current visitor information from Nissedal municipality states that the access road is private and costs NOK 100 per passage; payment to Espestøylvegen road association can be made to Vipps 113586. There are three alternative parking areas, with payment arrangements signposted on site. From Dynjanfoss it is about 7 km by bicycle, or about 2 km on foot via the demanding shortcut below the timber flume. Walking on top of the flume is prohibited. The shortcut is poorly marked, rough and unsuitable for prams and children below school age.
Safety comes first
Jettegrytene lies in a regulated watercourse. Water levels and current can rise within minutes and without warning. Respect all signs, keep children close, avoid the water when flow is increasing, and remember that wet rock is extremely slippery. Wear sturdy shoes and never jump before checking depth and obstacles. All swimming and access are at your own risk.
Plan a relaxed day trip
Bring water, food, swim shoes, warm clothing and a bag for all rubbish. Mobile coverage can vary. Allow generous time for the final approach and choose the road route rather than the rough shortcut if anyone in the group is unsure on uneven terrain.
