Øvre Verket Artisan Village – Historic Ulefoss Stay Nearby

Ulefoss has been an industrial hub since the 1800s, built around iron extraction from the Fens field a few kilometres south of town — mining that actually dates back to the 1600s. Øvre Verket was built in the early 1800s to house the workers of Ulefos Jernverk, and the settlement’s original wooden houses are now listed heritage buildings.

Rather than being preserved as a static museum piece, Øvre Verket has been given new life as a hub for local artisans and craftspeople.
