Sauna by the Telemark Canal | Stay near Ulefoss

After a day of water skiing, cycling or exploring the Telemark Canal, few things feel better than the warmth of a wood-fired sauna. Several attractive options have appeared between Lunde and Ulefoss, but Skogens Rom stands out: an architect-designed woodland and sauna retreat beside the Telemark Canal between Lunde and Vrangfoss.

Skogens Rom – a floating sauna in an old forest

Designed by Furore Arkitektur and Oslo Works, Skogens Rom sits beautifully in an old cultural landscape by the canal. The floating, wood-fired sauna opened on 4 March 2025 and accommodates up to ten people for private bookings (nine for drop-in/shared sessions). Next to it is a heated lounge where you can relax and cool down between sauna sessions. Those who are feeling brave can take a refreshing – or icy – dip straight outside.

You can book the entire sauna raft privately for a 1.5-hour session. This total time includes changing-room time before and after the sauna. The sauna and heated lounge are ready when you arrive, and you can alternate between the heat, fresh air and a dip in the Telemark Canal. Choose private rental or selected drop-in/shared sessions. Skogens Rom is also a project in development. The long-term plan includes ten architect-designed forest cabins for around 25 overnight guests, as well as a shared building with dining, lounge and reception facilities. For now, the floating sauna is open, and the project currently aims to open its first forest cabins in 2027.
